Instagram follower viewer

Read the follower list and the following list of a public Instagram account without an account of your own: who follows it, who it follows, and how to read both, with no record of your visit.

Can you see someone's followers and following without logging in?

Yes, on public accounts

An Instagram follower viewer opens both lists of a public account in the browser with no login. Opening a list is not recorded for the owner. On a private account the counts stay public and the lists stay closed.

Key points
  1. 1

On a public account, the follower list and the following list are open to any visitor.

  2. 2

A follower viewer and following viewer are the same tool: one username opens both lists.

  3. 3

Opening either list is not recorded for the owner, signed in or not.

  4. 4

A private account shows its counts to everyone and its lists to approved followers only.

What you can see

Both lists, as Instagram shows them to any visitor.

An Instagram following viewer and follower viewer read the same two public lists, with no login wall in front of them.

The follower list

Every account that follows this one, with its name, username and picture.

The following list

Every account this one has chosen to follow, newer follows usually near the top.

Search by name

Type part of a name or a username to find one account in a long list.

Open any account

Tap a name to open that account's public profile, posts and lists.

The counts above

Posts, followers and following in the header, the figures Instagram shows everyone.

In any browser

On a phone, a tablet or a computer, with nothing to install and no Instagram login.

How it works

Read a follower list in three steps.

The same on a phone, a tablet or a computer, with no Instagram login.

  1. 1

    Type the public username

Enter the handle of the account whose lists you want to read. The viewer needs that and nothing else.

  2. 2

    Open the profile

The profile header loads with the picture, the bio and the three counts.

  3. 3

    Open either list

Choose followers or following. Scroll, search by name, and open any account on the list.

The two lists

Followers and following: what each list tells you.

The two lists answer different questions. One shows who chose this account; the other shows who this account chose.

Reading a list

What a follower list can tell you.

A list is a record of follows. Read with care, it answers practical questions about an account.

  1. Who the audience is

Local names, other businesses, people in the same trade: the follower list of a shop or a creator shows who it reaches.

  2. Who an account works with

A business's following list often holds its suppliers, partners and the venues it appears at.

  3. Whether a count looks real

Followers with no profile picture, no posts and a handle of letters and numbers are the shape of inactive and automated accounts. A sample of the list shows how many there are.

  4. The ratio

Followers set against following. A long following list next to a short follower list is the shape of an account that follows in bulk to be followed back.

  5. What it does not show

Accounts a person looks at without following leave no trace on either list. A list shows follows, not attention.

What is recorded

Opening a list leaves no name on their side.

Instagram keeps one list of names about visitors: the story viewer list, open to the owner for 48 hours. Opening a follower or following list is not on it, and it is not recorded anywhere the owner can read.

A follow is different. Following an account sends the owner a notification with your name, which is why a viewer has no follow button for you to tap by mistake.

Terms on a list

Words you meet on a follower list.

Follower
An account that follows this one and sees its posts and stories in its feed.
Following
An account this one follows. The owner chose each one.
Mutual follow
Two accounts that follow each other. A visitor sees no mark for it; comparing both lists shows it.
Follow request
What a follow becomes on a private account: the owner approves or ignores it.
Private account on a list
Shows its name and picture on the list. Its own posts and lists stay closed.
Count
The number in the profile header. Large counts are written in a short form such as 12.4K.
Public or private

What a follower viewer shows on each kind of account.

Search a list by name Yes No

A private account's lists stay closed.

The follower and following lists of a private account are shown only to followers the owner approved. Every viewer sees the two counts and nothing more. A site that offers the names is not telling the truth.

Who uses it

Four ordinary reasons to read a follower list.

Claire DuboisVetting a creator
Example
The situation
A creator asked Claire to sponsor a post for her boutique. Claire wanted to know whether the followers were people from her city.
What they did
She scrolled the creator's public follower list, saw local shops and residents among the names, and agreed to one post.
Daniel MoreauFinding a supplier
Example
The situation
Daniel admired the bread at a bakery across town and wanted to know where its flour came from.
What they did
He opened the bakery's following list in a viewer and found a mill among the accounts it follows.
Lena HoffA new climbing gym
Example
The situation
Lena wanted to know whether people from her neighbourhood had joined a new climbing gym.
What they did
She searched the gym's public follower list for two names she knew, and found both.
Emma CarterChecking a host
Example
The situation
Emma was booking a room through a host whose public account showed the house.
What they did
She read the host's follower list, saw past guests and local businesses, and booked the room.
Can and cannot

What a follower viewer is for.

A follower viewer can

  • Open the follower and following lists of a public account
  • Search a list by name or username
  • Open any public account from a list
  • Read the counts of any account, public or private

It cannot

  • Open the lists of a private account
  • Date a follow or an unfollow
  • Show accounts a person looks at without following them
  • Follow, unfollow or message anyone for you
Stay safe

Three checks before you use any follower viewer.

Never type your Instagram password

A follower viewer takes a public username and nothing more. A page that asks for your login is collecting accounts.

Private-list promises are false

No site can list the followers of a private account. A page that offers it wants a survey, an install or a payment.

Look, then leave it there

Read what the owner made public. Messages or comments to people you found on someone else's list are contact they did not invite.

Questions

About follower lists.

Short answers to what people ask before they use an Instagram follower viewer.

Can I see someone's followers without an account?
Yes, if the account is public. An Instagram follower viewer opens the follower list and the following list in the browser from the username, with no login.
Can I see who someone follows on Instagram?
On a public account, yes. The following list is public, the same as the follower list, and a viewer shows both.
Will the person know I looked at their followers?
No. Opening a follower or following list is not recorded for the owner, whether the visitor is signed in or not.
Can I see the followers of a private account?
No. A private account's follower and following lists are shown only to followers the owner approved. Its counts stay public; the names do not.
Can I see when someone followed an account?
No. Neither list shows the date of a follow. Newer follows usually sit near the top of the following list, and Instagram has not documented the order.
Can I search a follower list for a name?
Yes. A viewer lets you search a public list by name or username, which is quicker than scrolling a long list.
Does the list show who follows back?
No mark is shown to a visitor without an account. Open both lists and compare them to see which accounts appear on each.
Is a following viewer different from a follower viewer?
No. They are two names for the same tool: one public username opens both lists, the accounts that follow it and the accounts it follows.
Do I need the Instagram app?
No. The viewer runs in the browser on an iPhone, an Android phone or a computer, with nothing to install.
Is this site part of Instagram?
No. UnseenProfile is an independent guide and is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta.
