What can you use when Pixwox is not working?

A post viewer that opens the grid in any browser

A browser viewer opens a public account's grid from a username, with each post's photos, caption, date and comments, and no login. On a computer the photos open larger and long comment threads are easier to read. Check the account is public, then try a viewer that asks for nothing else.

Key points
  1. 1

Pixwox is one of the names people search for when they want to browse public posts without an account.

  2. 2

Instagram records no post views and no profile visits, for anyone.

  3. 3

This page covers post viewers of this kind in general. It cannot report any site's current status.

  4. 4

UnseenProfile is independent and not affiliated with Pixwox, Instagram or Meta.

On a computer

A public grid, laid out on a larger screen.

Post viewers of this kind open a public account's grid in a browser window. On a computer, the photos open at a larger size, captions show in full, and a long comment thread fits on the screen with the photo beside it. Nothing needs installing, which matters on a work or shared computer.

Instagram's own website, logged out, shows some of the grid and then asks you to log in. A viewer opens the whole public grid from the username. Instagram keeps no record of who looks at posts, so browsing them leaves nothing for the owner to find.

Why a larger screen

Five reasons people browse posts on a computer.

Each one comes from the kind of post being read, not from the viewer.

Detail in a photo

A product, a menu, a floor plan or a piece of artwork reads better at a larger size.

Long comment threads

Replies under replies are easier to follow with more of the thread on screen.

Long captions

Recipes, event details and price lists often sit in the caption, in full.

Comparing accounts

Two browser tabs side by side, one account in each.

No app on the computer

A browser is all it takes, on a work or shared machine.

Inside a post

Four kinds of post, and what each one opens.

Choose a kind of post to see what a viewer shows inside it.

The full photo

At the size the owner uploaded, not the small crop shown on the grid.

The caption

In full, with any hashtags and mentions.

The date

The day the post went up.

The location tag

Where the owner added one.

Working back through a grid

From the newest post to the first.

A public grid runs newest first. Going back through it, these are the points you pass.

  1. 1
    At the top

    Pinned posts

Posts the owner pinned sit first, ahead of newer ones. The rest follow newest first.

  2. 2
    The recent run

    The latest posts

Photos, carousels and reels in the order they went up, each with its date.

  3. 3
    Further down

    Older posts

The grid runs back to the first post the owner kept. Archived posts are missing from it.

  4. 4
    The end

    The first post

The oldest post still on the grid. Nothing before it shows on any site.

Is all a viewer needs

Why they stop loading

Four reasons a post viewer shows an empty grid.

These apply to post viewers as a group. None of them is a statement about Pixwox or any other single site.

  1. Instagram blocks the route

A viewer loads the public pages Instagram serves. Instagram works to limit automated access, and a viewer that loads whole grids is the kind it limits. When the route is blocked, grids stop loading until the viewer changes its method.

  2. Rate limits

A long grid means many requests. Instagram caps the requests one source can make in a set time, and a busy viewer can reach that cap part way down a grid.

  3. A new address

A viewer can move to another domain. Bookmarks on a work computer keep pointing at the old one.

  4. Overload

When many people browse at once, photos can load slowly or not at all until traffic falls.

What to check first

Four checks before you switch.

An empty grid often comes from the account. These take a minute.

  1. Step 1

    The username

Copy the current handle from the person's or the business's own website or email signature.

  2. Step 2

    The lock

A lock in the header means private. The grid stays closed on every site.

  3. Step 3

    The post count

A count of zero means the grid is empty, or every post is archived.

  4. Step 4

    A known account

Type a public account you know. If its grid fails too, switch to a second viewer.

How it works

Browse a public grid in three steps.

The same in any computer or phone browser.

  1. 1

    Type the username

Enter the public account's handle. No email address and no Instagram password.

  2. 2

    Open the grid

Every public post, newest first, with pinned posts at the top.

  3. 3

    Open a post

The full photo or video, every carousel slide, the caption, the date and the comments.

Five checks

What a sound post viewer looks like.

Each check can be made on the first screen, on a computer or a phone. A viewer that passes all five is built for public posts. A page that fails one is not worth opening a second tab for.

Test it with a public account you have browsed before, so you know at once whether the grid is right.

Your options

Three ways to browse public posts, compared.

Each one shows a different amount on a computer and asks for something different.

Red flags

Four signs to close the tab.

These appear on pages that want something from you. None of them opens a single post.

A browser extension to view posts

An extension can read the pages you open in that browser. A public grid opens in a plain tab.

A login to see comments

Comments on a public post need no login. A password field collects accounts.

A list of who viewed a post

Instagram does not record post views. A page that offers the list has nothing to show.

A private account's grid

Private posts go only to approved followers. No site has them to show.

Who looks for one

Four people browsing posts on a computer.

Each example is about a public account and a viewer that stopped loading or asked for too much.

Emma CarterFraming for a print
Example
The situation
Emma wanted to see how a framing shop had mounted other people's prints, and her usual viewer showed an empty grid on her laptop.
What they did
She typed the shop's username into a second viewer and went through the carousels at full size before she called them.
Daniel MoreauA caterer's menus
Example
The situation
Daniel was choosing a caterer for an office lunch and wanted to read the menus posted as captions. A page asked him to add a browser extension.
What they did
He closed the tab and used a viewer that opened the grid in a plain browser window.
Claire DuboisComments on a product
Example
The situation
Claire stocks a candle maker's range and wanted to read customers' questions under the posts.
What they did
She opened the posts on her shop computer and read each comment thread with the photo beside it.
Lena HoffA post that had gone
Example
The situation
Lena went back to a hotel's post about its garden rooms, but it was no longer on the grid.
What they did
The post count had dropped, so the post was archived or deleted. She found the same rooms in a newer carousel.
In short

What an alternative is for, and what it is not.

An alternative is good for

  • Browsing a public grid on a computer or a phone
  • Every carousel slide, caption and comment on public posts
  • Looking through posts with nothing installed

An alternative is not for

  • A private account's posts
  • Liking, commenting or following
  • A list of who viewed a post
  • Telling you whether a given site is up right now

Questions

About Pixwox alternatives.

Short answers to what people ask about browsing public posts.

What can I use instead of Pixwox?
A browser viewer that opens a public account's grid, captions and comments from a username, with no Instagram login, on a computer or a phone, and passes the five checks on this page.
Why is Pixwox not loading posts?
This page cannot report the status of Pixwox or any other site. Post viewers of this kind stop loading for general reasons: Instagram blocks or limits their requests, they reach rate limits, they move address, or they are overloaded.
Can I browse Instagram posts on a computer without an account?
Yes, on public accounts. A browser viewer opens the grid on any computer, with no app and no login.
Can I see every slide of a carousel?
Yes. A carousel opens one slide at a time, photos and videos alike, in the order the owner set.
Can I read all the comments on a post?
On a public post, yes, unless the owner turned comments off for that post. Replies sit under the comment they answer.
Why are some posts at the top out of date order?
The owner pinned them. Pinned posts sit at the top of the grid, ahead of newer ones.
Why is a post I saw before missing?
The owner may have archived or deleted it, switched the account to private, or changed the username.
Does the owner know I browsed their posts?
No. Instagram does not record who views a post or a profile. The only list it shows an owner is the list of accounts that opened a story.
Can an alternative show a private account's posts?
No. A private account's posts go only to followers the owner approved. The header is all any site can show.
Is UnseenProfile connected to Pixwox?
No. UnseenProfile is an independent guide and is not affiliated with Pixwox, Instagram or Meta.
